MEET THE TEAM

Kurtis, Primary Photographer

Kurtis is a published San Antonio wedding photographer and award-winning member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). His favorite things to photograph are fleeting candid moments, whether at a wedding or on the streets of New York City. He loves to tell stories by masterfully combining timing, the artistic use of light, and thoughtful composition. His extensive experience with weddings and in the commercial world (from editorials and headshots to architecture, products, and food) means that no matter the challenge, he will rise to the occasion and create beautiful, classic images that will stand the test of time.

MT, Super-Assistant

MT (short for Maritere) holds a Masters in Industrial Psychology, worked as Director of Human Resources in two Fortune 500 companies, and then became a full-time mother in 2005. That is to say, she is vastly overqualified in her position as Super-Assistant and she puts her skills to very good use. She genuinely and deeply cares about others and comes with a ‘magic bag’ emergency kit with everything you wish you would have remembered in it. MT has a great eye as well and a knack for reading people which makes her an indispensable part of the team. Born-and-raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she also speaks Spanish fluently.

Justin, Dedicated Photo Editor

Justin is the backbone of our business, making last week’s photographs shine while we’re busy creating this week’s. He makes it possible to keep our turn-around lightning fast; while we quote 4-6 weeks for wedding images to be ready, our average is actually 2-3 weeks. Husband, father, purveyor of fine whiskey and moustaches… he learned to become ultra-efficient and ultra-consistent while working as lead editor at one of the most respected post-production labs in the country. When he’s not busy editing for us he runs his own photography business with his wife, Hadley(s) Photo!

Network of Great Photographers

When it comes to weddings, we exclusively work as a team of two equally-skilled and experienced lead photographers. For us a second photographer is not a mere bullet-point on a marketing handout or price-sheet, they add a tremendous level of value because we only work with the best. Our network of photographers spans the globe and no matter the size, no matter the location, you will have two amazing photographers capturing unique perspectives. Having two great photographers also means that one of us can get the safe shot while the other get something more creative.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Specializing in San Antonio and Houston wedding photography, we are also available for domestic and international travel. We tell stories with the artistic use of light, composition, and with a discreet, documentary approach. Our commitment to you is to turn fleeting moments into timeless images that mean something, devoid of gimmicks, fads and formulas.

We are a boutique photography studio obsessed with service and quality, accepting a limited number of commissions each year. Everything we do stems from the core belief that your wedding day should be filled with joy and that you should be catered to. Our unique team approach allows us to ensure that you experience this special day with a minimum of stress.

We will discreetly capture the moments of your wedding day while my amazing super-assistant makes sure that you have everything you need and that the little emergencies of the day are dealt with swiftly. We are there to capture moments candidly without making your wedding all about having your picture taken.

It’s important to us to not only photograph beautiful portraits, but to do so efficiently so that you can get back to celebrating with your friends and family! The hours are precious and few on your wedding day, and we want the majority of your time to be spent making memories while we capture them beautifully for you.

We believe that true professionalism is based on how you perform when all the cards are stacked against you, not how you perform when everything goes perfectly. Weddings can be chaotic, but we are always able to make the best of any situation. When you look back at your wedding album, you won’t remember the stress, you’ll just see and feel how amazing your wedding day was.

We believe that great wedding photography should be a mix of documentary photography, timeless portraiture, and still-life (details), in order to fully tell the story of your day. We believe that photography should not take over your wedding day, and we plan extensively for each wedding so that we can achieve fantastic results as efficiently as possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We love your work, team approach and philosophy! How do we book you?

After you’ve filled out the contact form, we’ll respond within 24hrs with our availability and answer your questions. The next step will be a phone call, video chat, or in-person consultation to discuss your day in greater depth and determine the right wedding collection for you. Finally, your booking is completed entirely online in just minutes with a digital signature and 25% non-refundable retainer to secure your date.

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend inquiring as soon as you decide you love our work, and then we recommend booking us as soon as you decide you also love us and the way we do things. Most couples book us 8-12 months in advance but if we happen to be available on shorter notice, that’s okay too. The further ahead you inquire, the more likely we are to have your date available.

Our wedding is in Houston / Dallas... will you travel? How much will that cost?

There are NO TRAVEL FEES within Texas. We are based in San Antonio and regularly photograph weddings and assignments all over the state.

Our wedding is in New York / Colorado / California, will you travel? How much will that cost?

Absolutely, we charge a flat travel rate of $1,200 for anywhere in the CONUS. Our Southwest frequent flier Companion Pass status helps us keep travel affordable for myself and MT, and then we bring in local talent from our extensive network for the second photographer. Outside of the CONUS we will quote a flat fee for travel anywhere in the World.

Who will actually shoot the wedding / assignment?

When you book Kurtis Kronk Photography, you get Kurtis Kronk, period. Our wedding collections also include a second lead photographer, to be chosen based on location and availability. Rest assured that we work with only the best and will fly in a second photographer at our own expense if one of our preferred locals is not available.

How soon will we get to see our wedding photos?

Your edited images will be posted in an online gallery in 4-6 weeks or less (current average is 3 weeks). If you would like password-protection for your gallery, please let us know. Your friends and family can order prints and even digital downloads via the online gallery.

How many images will be delivered?

We believe in quality over quantity, capturing the unique story of your day as it unfolds. The last thing we want is to overwhelm you with every image captured or by including many redundant photos of a near-identical moment. On average we deliver around 800 edited photographs, but this can vary a great deal based on many factors. We’ve delivered around 600 for smaller events and around 1,200 for very large events.

How does the album design process work?

We make this process as simple as possible by designing the first draft of your album. We then upload it to an album proofing gallery for you. From here, you can comment on specific pages/images to request any changes and then we’ll do a phone call if needed to discuss further. We believe it is our duty to provide expert guidance at every step, so if there is a request we disagree with we will politely advise as such, and of course any final decisions are yours to make.

Is Kronk your actual name, for real? Have you seen Emperor's New Groove? Do you 'get crunk'?

It’s my real name (pretty cool, isn’t it?), and yes… yes I have. If by get crunk you mean have the best job in the world… you betcha.

What photography equipment do you use?

Our goal when shooting a wedding is to capture the day with a respectful approach, unobtrusively and efficiently. While we always bring more than necessary for the sake of being prepared and having backups, we only use what’s appropriate. Typically Kurtis shoots with a pair of Nikon bodies (on Quiet mode) with an array of Nikon lenses. My favorite lenses are the 35 1.4 and 85 1.4, but I also use the 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 VR II, 24 1.4, 50 1.4, and 105 f2.8 Macro as called for. I shoot almost exclusively with available light throughout the day, but for family formals and the reception I tend to use Nikon SB-910 flashes triggered wirelessly via PocketWizard Flex units. A portable LED video light is often used when shooting details and occasionally during wedding receptions. Our Profoto B1 battery-operated wireless studio lights and selection of Profoto light modifiers are usually reserved for on-location portraits (i.e. bridal session) and editorial / commercial assignments.

We go above and beyond to ensure that you will be thrilled and that you never have to think to ask about our refund policy. Don’t take my word for it though, read some of the client letters we’ve received. With that being said, here is a message from the depressing world of legal:
